Originally from the UK – Luke has lived in Australia since 2002. He’s enjoyed careers as a research scientist, cook, massage therapist and artist. He’s a self-taught painter who’s inspired by Australia’s natural beauty and boisterous wildlife. He has an ongoing obsession with painting Australian parrots.
He’s exhibited in galleries across NSW, was awarded first place in the global online competition “Art Wars” in 2017, has been published in the book by Outback Creative in 2018 and is currently the president of the Ferry Artists Gallery in Wisemans Ferry, NSW, Australia. He has a passion for painting, teaching and creating public art in and around his local community.
He enjoys painting work for others and running workshops – so please get in touch if you’d like to commission a painting or enquire about workshops.
Luke’s painting style has evolved in response to his appreciation for the photography technique of Bokeh – which creates the effect of soft out-of-focus backgrounds, achieved when shooting a subject, using a fast lens, at the widest aperture.
He likes to create this contrasting effect in his painted work – combining specific in focus details and contrasting softness. This has the effect of bringing attention to the subject. Luke finds that acrylic paints achieve the intensity of colour, sharp lines and soft layering he desires in his pieces.
